Due to the Pandemic several people especially in the lower class have no income or lost their job and no end to lockdown insight, are finding it difficult even for a living. To mitigate their hardships, Sri Shankara Hindu Mission an organization started by the late Sankaracharya of Kanchi Peetam Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal, in Mumbai , distributed, free rations for one month to those needy people like flower vendors, taxi drivers, barbers, housemaids, cooks and watchmen at Sri Shankara Mattham, Matunga ton the occasion of the 127th Jayanthi of the Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati swamigal who was also called Mahaperiyava of Kanchi Peeam.
The entire pack contains rice, wheat, pulses, oil, ghee and other kitchen items ,costing Rs.1000/- were given to 100 people. In addition to this , about 30 poor people were given rations at the Dombivili centre of the Sri Shankara Mattham. This exercise will be carried out every month for different sections of society including for Covid warriors said Siva Subramanian, Secretary of the Shankara Mattham. He said more than 100 orphan children were served food at the B.J. Home Matunga today.
On the religious side, special poojas were held and pada pooja was performed for the late Kanchi Acharya Sri Chandrasekharendra Sarswati Swamigal.
