“Our progress brings joy to the world and not jealousy,” said PM Modi in a veiled message to China, often criticised for its perceived expansionist policies and predatory lending.

Delivering the keynote address at the two-day NDTV World Summit 2024—The India Century event, he said that there is a growing realisation that India is a country whose growth brings about celebrations across the globe.

He said that the international reception received by the successful Chandrayan Mission was one such example.

PM Modi described the global economy as a gift of India, saying, “India does not build relations on a ‘taken-for-granted basis’. Our relations are based on trust and reliability, and even the world is realising this.”

Recalling the COVID crisis, he said, “We could have earned crores of dollars by using our capacity to produce vaccines. It would have been beneficial for India but a setback for humanity. But our values did not allow us to do this, and we helped several nations during the crisis.”

The next century belongs to India

He said the world had started believing India was a reliable partner during the calamity.

“The all-round changes taking place in the country are also increasing the global community’s trust in India, which is taking the lead in giving direction to the global future on a number of issues,” he said.

Showcasing the model of ‘Jan Shakti se Rashtra Nirman’ (nation-building with public participation), PM Modi said the country was moving ahead at an unprecedented speed, as the targets for the next 25 years have been set based on public debate.

“Double AI advantage is another factor that is making the next century the India Century. The double advantage is that of Artificial Intelligence and Aspirational India,” the PM said.

“Our policies are formed keeping aspirational India in mind,” he said, citing the UDAN scheme that has helped the common man fly and bring about a connectivity revolution.

He said that the government was not just committed but resolute in forming policies aimed at improving the ease of living, quality of life, and welfare of the youth and women, a promise for a brighter future.

Bishnoi Group Chief Wants Salman Khan to Apologise for Killing Blackbuck https://www.mediaeyenews.com/celebrities/bishnoi-group-chief-wants-salman-khan-to-apologise-for-killing-blackbuck/139518.html https://www.mediaeyenews.com/celebrities/bishnoi-group-chief-wants-salman-khan-to-apologise-for-killing-blackbuck/139518.html#respond Thu, 17 Oct 2024 17:35:29 +0000 https://www.mediaeyenews.com/?p=139518 Jaipur: The Akhil Bharatiya Bishnoi Mahasabha national president Devendra Vishnoi on Thursday said that Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is guilty as he killed Blackbuck and should apologise.

“He is guilty of the Bishnoi community as well as of the society. Killing blackbuck is a legal crime. Our Bishnoi community does not allow it. He is definitely guilty of the Bishnoi community. Our community has been bearing this pain for the last 24 years, and in such a situation, Salman Khan should apologise to Bishnoi society,” said Devendra Vishnoi.

He added that apologising to society does not make a person small, but he will ultimately have to apologise.

“If apologising brings peace and relief, then it is good work. Salman Khan should definitely apologise,” said Vishnoi.

In May this year, Somy Ali, a former actress and reportedly in a relationship with Salman Khan many years ago, said that the Bishnoi community should forgive Salman Khan.

In May 2024, she appealed to the Bishnoi community, emphasising the importance of forgiveness and requesting that they forgive Khan.

“Making mistakes is part of human nature. No one is perfect. But if you’re attempting to kill someone, then you’re crossing the line. Salman was much younger in 1998. I want to request the head of the Bishnoi tribe to forget about it and move on. I apologise on his behalf if he has made a mistake. Please forgive him,” the actress had said.

In 1998, during the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hai, Salman Khan was involved in a hunting expedition where a Blackbuck was killed. The incident sparked controversy and legal proceedings, and the case is still pending in court.

Following the killing of Salman’s friend, politician Baba Siddique, security has been heightened around Salman Khan.

Kashmiri Pandits Want Farooq Abdullah to Apologise for the 1990 Exodus & Genocide https://www.mediaeyenews.com/interviews/kashmiri-pandits-want-farooq-abdullah-to-apologise-for-the-1990-exodus-genocide/139155.html https://www.mediaeyenews.com/interviews/kashmiri-pandits-want-farooq-abdullah-to-apologise-for-the-1990-exodus-genocide/139155.html#respond Tue, 15 Oct 2024 10:12:41 +0000 https://www.mediaeyenews.com/?p=139155 New Delhi: Following National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah’s statement about the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley, members of the displaced community have demanded that the party first acknowledge the 1990 exodus and apologise for the genocide before making any promises.

Abdullah, whose party is set to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir in coalition with Congress, expressed his desire for the return of Kashmiri Pandits, who were forced to flee their homes in the 1990s.

“I hope our brothers and sisters who left the Valley will return home. The time has come, and they should come back to their homes,” Abdullah told reporters on Saturday.

He added that the NC does not differentiate between Hindus and Muslims and treats everyone equally. “There is a place for everyone in Kashmir,” he stressed.

However, speaking to IANS, Kashmiri Pandits, while open to the prospect of returning, voiced scepticism over Abdullah’s sincerity.

One member of the community said, “If Farooq Abdullah is sincere and has had a change of heart, we welcome this step. But if he holds the same beliefs as he did in the 1980s and 1990s, this would be the biggest betrayal.”

The community also accused the NC and Congress of orchestrating the 1990 exodus.

“In 1990, a deliberate policy was made to drive us out and seize our lands. The NC, in collaboration with Congress, executed this plan. If people doubt it, an investigative committee should be set up to determine who was responsible,” the Kashmiri Pandit said.

He demanded an apology from the NC, urging them to admit their role in the forced migration.

“The NC should admit its role in the 1990 exodus and apologise for the genocide. If Abdullah is sincere, then proper policies and arrangements must be made for our return. We don’t have homes there anymore. Do they have a roadmap, or should we stay at Farooq Abdullah’s house?” he asked.

Another Kashmiri Pandit emphasised that sweet words won’t be enough, and concrete policies must be in place.

“The NC and Congress should clarify their policies. If they still plan to implement the same policies from 1986 and 1989, we want no part of it. We won’t be fooled by sweet words. We’ve suffered enough,” he said.

Reflecting on the dark chapter of their displacement, he recounted, “On January 19, 1990, at 7:00 p.m., announcements were made from mosques, telling Kashmiri Pandits to leave, while asking Kashmiri women to stay.”

He urged Abdullah to meet with stakeholders from the Pandit community and develop a roadmap to ensure they are never forced to flee again.

“He must acknowledge the genocide and create a solid plan that ensures our safety,” he added.

Another member living in a migration camp in Jammu urged the government to consult the Kashmiri Pandits about their demands.

“We want to know if Abdullah’s statement is genuine or just political rhetoric. The Government of India and the future J&K government should meet with a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits and ask what we want. Without that, these are just empty promises.”

One member of the community took a direct swipe at Abdullah, questioning why he had not taken these steps earlier.

“When Farooq Abdullah first formed the government after the genocide, why didn’t he act then? Why is he speaking about this now? It seems that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has improved the situation in Kashmir, yet Abdullah continues to claim that the Prime Minister ruined it.”

Another Pandit echoed the demand to halt distress sales of migrant properties.

“If Farooq Abdullah announces a stop to the distress sales of migrant properties, we will welcome that move. Why hasn’t he done that yet?”

The demands come as the community remains cautious about returning to the Valley, seeking assurances and accountability from those in power.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat: Important to Commemorate Historical Figures Who Have Contributed to Nation https://www.mediaeyenews.com/art-culture/rss-chief-mohan-bhagwat-important-to-commemorate-historical-figures-who-have-contributed-to-nation/138826.html https://www.mediaeyenews.com/art-culture/rss-chief-mohan-bhagwat-important-to-commemorate-historical-figures-who-have-contributed-to-nation/138826.html#respond Sat, 12 Oct 2024 06:22:19 +0000 https://www.mediaeyenews.com/?p=138826 New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) commenced its annual Vijayadashami celebrations in Nagpur on Saturday. As per tradition, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat worshipped weapons and addressed the gathering during this occasion.

This year’s celebrations hold special significance as the RSS entered its 100th year.

In his speech, Mohan Bhagwat highlighted the importance of commemorating historical figures who have contributed to the nation.

He recalled last year’s tribute to Maharani Durgavati, the queen of the Gond kingdom of Garha-Katanga, and announced that this year’s focus would be on Ahilyabai Holkar, whose 320th birth anniversary is being observed.

“Ahilyabai, a noted ruler, was praised for her strategic governance and efforts to promote religion and culture by constructing temples, ghats, and Dharamshalas across India,” said the RSS chief.

Mohan Bhagwat also pointed out that 2024 marks the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, who played a pivotal role in India’s resurgence.

“He educated people about true religion, encouraging them to understand their roots and practice righteousness for freedom. His efforts inspired various movements nationwide, underscoring the importance of character in a prosperous nation,” said Mohan Bhagwat.

The RSS chief further acknowledged the contributions of Sri Anukul Chandra Thakur, a homoeopathic doctor and spiritual leader. Mohan Bhagwat said his spiritual movement continues to thrive, and his followers still feel his influence.

Additionally, Mohan Bhagwat paid tribute to tribal leader Birsa Munda, whose 150th birth anniversary is being observed, saying, “We also honour the legacy of Birsa Munda, who dedicated his life to awakening the tribal society against foreign exploitation, marking his 150th birth anniversary this year.”

Further mentioning the nation’s progress and science, the RSS chief remarked, “While discussing progress, the need is to prepare for the future, which, due to technology, will bring various new conveniences. Science has provided numerous benefits, making human life materially more comfortable.”

“However, we observe that despite this progress, conflicts arise in society due to selfishness and ego. The ongoing conflict with Israel raises concerns about how widespread it will become, who will be affected, and what global crises may arise as a result,” he added.

“When considering our own country, we see it progressing in various fields such as technology and education. India is advancing in all these areas, and society’s understanding is gradually improving,” said Mohan Bhagwat.

In that context, he also mentioned the peaceful Assembly elections that took place in Jammu and Kashmir recently, saying that they reflected the nation’s progress.

“For instance, we note that elections in Jammu and Kashmir were conducted peacefully, reflecting this progress. India’s reputation in the world is rising, and yoga is becoming a global trend, not just as a fashion but also as a practice recognised for its principles and benefits,” he said.

Kashmir Dynasties: Mehbooba Mufti Flops, Sajjad Lone Scrapes Through, Omar Abdullah Stands Out https://www.mediaeyenews.com/election/kashmir-dynasties-mehbooba-mufti-flops-sajjad-lone-scrapes-through-omar-abdullah-stands-out/138326.html https://www.mediaeyenews.com/election/kashmir-dynasties-mehbooba-mufti-flops-sajjad-lone-scrapes-through-omar-abdullah-stands-out/138326.html#respond Tue, 08 Oct 2024 14:50:44 +0000 https://www.mediaeyenews.com/?p=138326 New Delhi: While the Abdullah family celebrated a significant victory in the J&K Assembly elections, other dynasties found themselves struggling to secure electoral support, painting a diverse picture of the election results.

The Mufti dynasty had its worst day, securing only three seats out of 90 Assembly constituencies. The loss of its newest family member in politics further underscored the historical significance of the poor performance.

When the last Assembly election was held in 2014, Mehbooba Mufti’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 28 seats. The party formed the government in Jammu and Kashmir in 2015 in an alliance with the BJP. The BJP, however, withdrew its support in 2018.

But in the October 8 verdict, the people gave a thumbs down to the party.

The PDP chief’s daughter, Iltija Mufti, lost her first Assembly polls from the Srigufwara-Bijbehara in South Kashmir, a seat that has been a PDP stronghold for the past few decades. Before delimitation, the Bijbehara Assembly seat was previously represented by Iltija Mufti’s grandfather and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and her mother Mehbooba Mufti. Losing the seat is a major blow to the Muftis.

If Mufti had had a terrible day, another dynasty managed to keep the show on.

Sajad Gani Lone of the Jammu & Kashmir People Conference won the Handwara seat, with a wafer-thin margin of just 622 votes. He secured 29,812 votes and his nearest rival Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan of the National Conference got 29,150 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

However, he lost the Kupwara constituency by a significant margin of over 20,316 votes to PDP’s Mir Mohammad Fayaz. Lone, in fact, was third after Fayaz and NC’s Nasir Aslam Wani.

In the 2014 Assembly elections, Lone defeated NC’s Ramzan by over 5,000 votes in Handwara and subsequently served as a minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Sajad Lone’s father, Abdul Gani Lone, was a three-time winner of the seat in 1967, 1972, and 1977. His victories spanned different political eras, contesting two elections as a Congress candidate and a third as a Janata Party candidate.

The star of the day, however, was the Abdullah family.

Omar Abdullah won the Budgam and Ganderbal Assembly seats in Kashmir by big margins.

He defeated PDP’s Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi in Badgam with a margin of more than 18,485 votes.

The NC vice president polled 36,010 votes in Budgam, one of the two constituencies he contested in the Jammu and Kashmir elections this time.

How Congress Infighting Spelled Doom for Party in Haryana

In Ganderbal, he defeated PDP candidate Bashir Ahmad Mir by 10,574 votes. Omar Abdullah polled 32,727 votes here.

With this win, Omar Abdullah has reclaimed his electoral weight in the UT, especially in the valley. He lost the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla, which Engineer Rashid won.

Perceiving the win in the Assembly elections when the early trends came in, his father, NC chief and Lok Sabha member Farooq Abdullah, announced that his son would become the Chief Minister.

Omar Abdullah was the J&K CM from 2009 to 2015. His father, Farooq Abdullah and his grandfather, Sheikh Mohd Abdullah, were also the CMs.

The Abdullah family’s victory in the 2014 Assembly elections is a testament to their enduring influence in Kashmir politics, reaffirming their dynasty’s hold.

The unexpected defeat of Congress and the ‘surprising’ victory of BJP have left many in shock.

The biggest talking point now is how Congress lost the plot and gave away its much-anticipated victory to the BJP. Exit polls and political experts also concurred with a strong Congress wave in the state.

Bickering, infighting and internal squabbles over gaining party supremacy are the key reasons behind Congress’s below-par performance. These issues not only distracted the party from its campaign but also led to a lack of unity and coordination, which are crucial for a successful electoral strategy. As different factions under Bhupinder Hooda and Kumari Selja cropped up within the state unit, it did no good to the party and only weakened its clout.

Even before the Assembly elections, the Haryana Congress was split wide open, with several factions emerging within the state unit. Internal squabbling had begun, with party veterans including Bhupinder Hooda, Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala all angling for the Chief Minister post. They didn’t shy away from making their ambition public. The party high command, led by Rahul Gandhi, made several attempts to quell the discontent and discord within, including mediation and appeals for unity, but these efforts were largely unsuccessful.

Despite facing strong anti-incumbency, farmers’ wrath, and wrestlers’ protests, the BJP’s unity and resilience led them to a record third term in power.

Congress’ hopes of a comeback have been shattered, and there are no external forces to blame. The party’s internal issues have led to its removal from the electoral race, despite being the ‘favourites’ to win Haryana.

Union Minister Enjoys Breakfast with Rickshaw, Cart Pullers in Dibrugarh

The factional feud, led by Hooda and Selja and their collective rejection of Rahul’s idea, is seen as another reason for shock electoral loss. Their Internal quarrels and squabbles played out in the open as both Hooda and Selja pitched for their candidates during ticket distribution.

As Hooda’s 72 ‘loyalists’ got a greater share in ticket allocation, the sulking Selja opted out of the party’s campaign for about two weeks. The Congress high command only brought her after coaxing and cajoling her.

Shailja, the Dalit face of Congress, gave the BJP further ammunition to trade more barbs at the divided party.

Just before ticket allocation for Assembly elections, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had mooted the idea of stitching a pre-poll alliance with INDIA bloc allies, including AAP, but state unit leaders rejected it. The reason was – their belief and overconfidence that anti-incumbency would dislodge Nayab Singh Saini’s government from power. Also, the party’s remarkable performance in Lok Sabha elections gave it hope of a rebound in the state, but that came a cropper.

Congress party’s debacle in the 2019 Assembly elections was also attributed to an internal feud. With the 2024 Assembly elections going the same way, the party seems to have learnt no lessons from past mistakes.

Jaishankar stated that artificial intelligence (AI) will be a profound global factor, second only to nuclear weapons.

Participating in the third edition of the Kautilya Economic Conclave, organised by the Institute of Economic Growth and the Finance Ministry, on its third and final day, Jaishankar emphasised the urgency of preparing for AI’s after-effects. He stressed that AI is not just the next big thing but a looming reality that countries should be ready to confront.

He further said that AI will also become a profound factor in the global ecosystem. “AI will be as dangerous for the world as nuclear bombs once were,” he observed.

Furthermore, Minister Jaishankar highlighted the potential for demographics, connectivity, and AI to revolutionise the global order. He painted a picture of a future where these factors will reshape the world as we know it.

Jaishankar warned that Globalization can be weaponised in the next decade, and the world must exercise caution. He underscored the need for careful planning and strategic thinking to mitigate the negative effects of this potential weaponisation.

The realities of globalisation inevitably collide with protectionism, he said.

The External Affairs Minister also said that in today’s era, the United Nations’ role has become only that of a spectator. Comparing the United Nations to the business world, he said that it is an old business that is taking up a lot of space but is not changing according to the world.

On the ongoing Middle East conflict, he said that today, the fight is taking place only for economic corridors, land, and sea, but in the future, there will also be fights over climate change. He further highlighted that the Global South is feeling the impacts of these geopolitical tensions more acutely than others, raising concerns about the region’s stability.

The U.S. and its allies, recognising the crucial role they play in the region, had earlier called for a 21-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon to end months of exchange of missiles and to restart the stalled talks between Israel and Hamas.

“Hassan Nasrallah and the terrorist group he led, Hezbollah, were responsible for killing hundreds of Americans over a four-decade reign of terror,” Biden said in a statement.

“His death from an Israeli airstrike is a measure of justice for his many victims, including thousands of Americans, Israelis, and Lebanese civilians.”

He said that the airstrikes that killed Nasrallah took place in the broader context of the conflict that began with Hamas’s massacre on October 7, 2023.

“Hamas terrorists entered Israel on October 7 and killed 1,139 people – 695 Israeli civilians, including 36 children, and 373 security forces and 71 foreigners, giving a total of 1,139. They had also taken 251 people hostage. The next, Nasrallah, made the fateful decision to join hands with Hamas and open what he called a “northern front” against Israel,” Biden added.

The US president reaffirmed the country’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and any other Iranian-backed terrorist groups.

“Just yesterday, I directed my Secretary of Defense to further enhance the defence posture of US military forces in the Middle East region to deter aggression and reduce the risk of a broader regional war,” he said further.

He stated that the ultimate US goal is to de-escalate the ongoing confrontations in Gaza and Lebanon through diplomatic means.

“In Gaza, we have been pursuing a deal backed by the UN Security Council for a ceasefire and the release of hostages. In Lebanon, we have been negotiating a deal that would return people safely to their homes in Israel and southern Lebanon. It is time for these deals to close, for the threats to Israel to be removed, and for the broader Middle East region to gain greater stability,” Biden said.
