New Delhi: The disputed land in Ayodhya will be given to a government trust to create a temple and Muslims will be given a five-acre "correct" plot in the city, announced today by the Supreme Court in a landmark verdict in a religious and political flashpoint that has cast a shadow over the country for decades.A five-judge constitution bench delivered a unanimous verdict. There have been appeals for peace and heightened security across the country.
The decision follows a centuries-old legal dispute over a piece of land in Ayodhya where the Babri mosque of the 16th century stood before it was demolished by Hindu activists who say it is Lord Ram's birthplace.
