Death For Nirbhaya Convict : Supreme Court

New Delhi: Today the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of one of the four convicts in the 2012 gang rape, torture and murder of a young medical student Nirbhaya, stating that there was no need to review the verdict. Convict Akshay Singh can plead for mercy before the President of India within one week, the judges said." Review petition is not re-hearing of the appeal," said a three-judge panel, denying the last such petition in the case.
