Mamata Meets PM Modi in Kolkata

Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Minister Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal on Saturday after a two-day visit to Kolkata. The meeting at the Raj Bhavan came in the midst of a tense face-off between the BJP of PM Modi and the Trinamool Congress of Ms Banerjee over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which has triggered massive protests across India. "It has been a courtesy call since he came to Bengal. I told the Prime Minister that the CAA, NRC (National Citizens ' Register) and NPR (National Population Register) are not accepted by the people of the state. I asked him to reconsider these steps," Ms Banerjee said."I also reminded him that the centre owes Cyclone Bulbul around Rs 38,000 crore to Bengal including Rs 7,000 crore as relief," she said.
