Pakistan govt. takes control of JeM headquarters

Saturday,23 February 2019 06:05 AM IST

Amid pressure from the international community to take stringent measures against the terror outfits operating in their soil, the Pakistan government took over the control of the control of the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), the terror group that killed 40 CRPF soldiers in a suicide attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district.

The move comes soon after the UN Security Council comprising all the 15 nations, including Pakistan's all-time friend and powerful member China, issued a statement condemning the deadliest attack on Indian soldiers. The statement named JeM while condemning the attack in the "strongest terms" and underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice, urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of India and all other relevant authorities in this regard.

"The Punjab government has taken over the control of the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur," Pakistan's Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told PTI.

"The government of Punjab has taken over the control of a campus comprising Madressatul Sabir and Jama-e-Masjid Subhanallah in Bahawalpur...and appointed an administrator to manage its affairs," the minister added.
