Supreme Court  Rejects Review Petitions On Rafale

Thursday,14 November 2019 07:55 AM IST

New Delhi: Today, in the Rafale fighter jet deal with French firm Dassault Aviation, the Supreme Court dismissed demands to review its clean chit to the government, saying there was no need for a "roving investigation" into the case. On May 10, the Supreme Court had reserved the petitions decision, including one by former union ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie, together with activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan, seeking a re-examination of their findings that there was no opportunity to question the decision-making process in the procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets. "We do not feel it is necessary to order a FIR (First Information Report) or a roving inquiry into the Rafale deal incident," said Ranjan Gogoi, SK Kaul and KM Joseph, the outgoing Chief Justice of India, while dismissing the petitions. "We think that there is no substance in the applications for review," said the top court.
