Varanasi’s Vandya Has Been Cultivating Mushrooms For 25 years, Business worth Crores Generated Annually

Varanasi (UP): The women of Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, are now walking shoulder-to-shoulder with men.

Vandya Chaurasia of Varanasi has been cultivating mushrooms since 2000 and is doing business worth crores annually today.

Vandya Chaurasia has studied MSc and B.Ed and has taken training in mushroom cultivation from Pusa Institute, Delhi and Mushroom Research Center.

She says that the beginning of mushroom cultivation was quite challenging, but many changes took place after the BJP government came to power. The problem of light was solved, and cooperation from the Horticulture Department helped increase production.

Today, she employs 25 people and cultivates mushrooms in 1 bigha area. According to Vandya Chaurasia, every day, two and a half to three quintals of mushrooms go to the market which is sold at Rs 130 per kg. There is a market of around Rs 10 lakh in a month, and the profit is around Rs 2 to 2.5 lakh per month.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath saw her work and awarded her a special award, which boosted her morale. She is continuously carrying out her work.

Vandya Chaurasia’s son, Soham Chaurasia, who was studying in Mumbai during COVID-19, is helping his mother and doing 80% of the work today.
