BCCI Initiative to Reward Domestic Cricket: Will Give Individual Prizes in Women’s, Junior, Vijay Hazare, Mushtaq Ali Tournaments

Mumbai: In a groundbreaking move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to include prize money for Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament award winners in Women’s and Junior Cricket events as part of its comprehensive Domestic Cricket Programme, which aims to promote and develop cricket at the grassroots level.

The BCCI has also decided to award prize money to the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah made these announcements in a social media post on Monday.

“We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women’s and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Programme,” said Jay Shah in his post on X, formerly Twitter.

“He said in the post that additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men.

Shah reiterated that the BCCI’s primary goal with this initiative is to acknowledge and reward exceptional domestic circuit performances, demonstrating the organisation’s unwavering commitment to the sport.

He also thanked the BCCI’s Apex Council for approving these initiatives.

“A heartfelt thank you to the Apex Council for their unwavering support in this endeavour. Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind,” Shah said in his post.

Previously, the BCCI had increased the match fee and prize money for various domestic tournaments, but individual performances were not rewarded. With the introduction of prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament, players will now receive additional rewards, encouraging them to deliver their best performances.
