Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, the Odisha Cabinet accepted three important recommendations, including a 10% reservation for ex-Agniveers in state uniformed forces.

The decision was made after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi here.

“As you know, the Agniveers get one year of training and later serve in the military for four years. After the completion of a four-year tenure, some of them are given an extension as permanent commission while the rest didn’t get the job. The Cabinet today approved that Odisha will provide 10 per cent reservation for these Agniveers in uniform services, such as Frie services, Police, Excise and Forest department,” said State Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja.

The Cabinet approved the Odisha Ex-Agniveers (Recruitment to Uniform Services) Rules, 2024.

This will create numerous options for ex-Agniveers to acquire work in uniformed services such as the police, forest, excise, and fire departments.

The government has granted a 10% horizontal reservation to ex-Agniveers in all Group “C” and “D” roles for direct recruitment in the state’s Uniform Services.

It stated that this reservation would be in addition to the one that ex-servicemen are entitled to.

However, they must meet the minimal criteria specified for the positions.

In addition, the Cabinet granted a three-year age waiver in the statutory maximum age limit for ex-Agniveers during Uniform Services recruiting. Agniveers will also be spared from the physical efficiency test.

In another significant decision, the state Cabinet approved an amendment to the OCS(RA) Rules, 2020 on Thursday, allowing daughters and step-daughters of deceased government servants, regardless of marital status, for compassionate appointment under the condition that their “dependency” on their parents is proven.

At the moment, only unmarried daughters and stepdaughters of deceased government employees are being considered for compassionate appointments.

The Cabinet also approved signing the Revised Concession Agreement between the Directorate of Ports and Inland Water Transport, Commerce and Transport Department and Gopalpur Ports Ltd.
