Abu Dhabi IIFA 2024: Shah Rukh Khan, who made an impressive comeback to the movies with his blockbuster films ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’ last year, won Best Actor at the 24th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) in Abu Dhabi.

The actor won the award for his performance as a father and son in the film ‘Jawan’. Rani Mukerji received the Best Actress award for her role in ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’.

The third of the top four awards, Best Picture, went to the Ranbir Kapoor-starring film ‘Animal’. At the same time, Vidhu Vinod Chopra received Best Director for his unexpected smash hit ’12th Fail’, an emotional and inspirational saga that touched a chord with everyone.

Interestingly, Vidhu Vinod Chopra had earlier told the media before the event that awards mattered the least to him and that he was just there to accompany his wife, Anupama Chopra, the editor of an international magazine.

The director said what he looks for in his work is creative satisfaction and the feeling of making a difference. While he ticked off both the prerequisites with ‘12th Fail, ‘ which inspires not just IAS aspirants but people from all walks of life, the IIFA win surely comes as a bonus to him.

It won Best Supporting Actor (Male) for Anil Kapoor, Best Performance in a Negative Role for Bobby Deol, Best Music Direction award shared by Pritam, Vishal Mishra, Manan Bhardwaj, Shreyas Puranik, Jaani, Bhupinder Babbal, Ashim Kemson and Harshavardhan Rameshwar, Best Playback Singer (Male) for Bhupinder Babbal, who sang the chartbuster ‘Arjan Vailly’, and Best Lyrics for Siddharth Singh & Garima Wahal.

While Hema Malini was conferred Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema, Alizeh Agnihotri was named Debutant of the Year.

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi, who has been in cinema for 50 years, was honoured with the Best Supporting Actress (Female) award for her work in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
