The fuel hike has raised for the second time this week. The price has increased to 27 paise per lit for petrol and 28 paise per litre for Diesel. The Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Mr Dharmendra Pradhan has said that petrol and diesel prices are rising on account of higher international crude oil rates.

From today, petrol in Mumbai will cost ₹103.69 per litre, while diesel will cost ₹95.72 for a litre. Delhi is not far behind and will have to shell out ₹97.50per litre for petrol and ₹88.23 per litre for diesel. In Chennai too the price of petrol has reached ₹98.65 per litre and ₹92.38 for a litre of diesel. In Kolkata, the prices have been revised to ₹97.38 per litre for petrol and ₹91.08 per litre for diesel.

Apart from the rising price of international crude oil, the main reason for this hike is the hike in central and state government taxes. There are mainly four factors that influence the rise in prices:

· Crude oil, freight and processing charges to the dealer.

· Excise duty charged by the government.

· Dealer commission to the gas station.

· Value Added Tax levied by the state government.

The Union Mister also said that the fuel prices cannot be bought down because the government is saving money to spend on the welfare schemes as over Rs 35,000 crore have been spent on vaccines in a year. He also said that in the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana scheme which gives free food grain to the poor for eight months, thousands of crores have been directly deposited in the bank accounts of our farmers for their wellbeing.

From all of this, it can be seen that the government is trying its best to do what is best for the public and to do that, the government had to take some important decisions to which maybe won’t agree to, but overall, it is done for the betterment of the nation.
