Auto components manufacturer WABCO has decided to have 4 days week work schedule for four of its plants facing weak demand for their products. The new schedule will be applicable for its plants in Ambattur (Tamil Nadu), Panthnagar (Uttarakhand), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), it said in a regulatory filing.

Employees in these factories will have Fridays off during March in addition to Saturday and Sunday. WABCO, headquartered in Chennai is a supplier of technologies and services that improve safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles in India. The company manufactures advanced braking systems, conventional breaking products and related air assisted technologies and systems.

Automotive sector has been battling a severe slowdown in demand with liquidity crunch, entry of electric vehicles and migration to BS-VI compliant vehicles. Almost every automobile manufactures have been recording a dip in sales over the last few months and the outbreak of coronavirus has also affected the auto component industry since many of the automobile parts come from China.

In light of the economic situation, the company has reduced the working hours for its employees for this month.
