IIT Bombay shuts for COVI

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) has begun suspending classroom lectures and laboratory practicals as a measure to safeguard students against coronavirus which has entered Mumbai. The state administration has reported that there are 22 positive cases as on date.

Hostel inmates have been asked to go home after reporting the same to the hall manager although foreign students have been given permission to stay in the hostel. Students doing their PhD thesis or pursuing their masters have been asked to take adequate precautions to prevent themselves falling prey to the disease.

An official spokesperson said that IIT-B director Subhasis Chaudhuri, and other top officials A.K. Suresh and Prasanna Mujumdar after detailed consultations with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai officials took the decision to temporarily suspend lectures.

The 24×7 reading room in the Central Library will be shut down until March 29 and the IIT-Bombay authorities are exploring alternative modes of delivery of courses.
