Late Indian film actress Sridevi received the Best Actress award for her performance in the film 'Mom' at the 65th National Film awards. Bengali actor Riddhi Sen was also given an award for Best Actor.

The Assamese movie 'Village Rockstars' also won an award for the Best Film while the movie 'Newton' won the best Hindi film honour.

Meanwhile Malayalam films upstaged many other languages as they bagged many significant awards including the Best Director, Singer, Supporting Actor and for Screenplay as well. Malayalam director Jayaraj received the award for the Best Director for his movie "Bhayanakam".

Fahad Fazil won the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in the Malayalam movie 'Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum', while Sajeev Pazhoor won an award for the Best Screenplay for the film as well.

K J Yesudas received the award for the Best Singer for the song titled 'Poimaranja Kalam'  for the movie 'Viswasapoorvam Mansoor.'

Late veteran actor Vinod Khanna was honoured with the Dadasahed Phalke Award posthumously.

The Awards were announced by the jury headed by filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.
