Lajpat Nagar Market in Delhi is popularly known as the Central Market and is one of the cheapest markets in Delhi. This is a full-fledged shopping center which is open on all days except on Mondays.

The Central government has decided to shut down this shopping center temporarily because of the gross violation of the Covid-19 guidelines. Due to this, the trader’s association of the Lajpat Nagar was issued a notice asking why action should not be taken against them for violating the norms. Punjabi Basti and Janta Market in Delhi have also been shut-down.

“An inspection was carried out by the undersigned in Central Market, Lajpat Nagar, along with the members of Covid-19 appropriate behavior (CAB). Enforcement teams deployed in the area saw a gross violation of CAB (no social distancing within the shops as well as an overall marketplace, vendors selling edibles without using adequate precautions, etc.). Due to these, it directed that the market be closed with immediate effect until further orders.” The order was issued on Sunday by PK Tripathi, Additional District Magistrate (South East).

This market is a famous destination for textile and garments and is just five minutes away from the nearest metro station. Lajpat Nagar Market is in South Delhi which is a very posh and safe locality and people love to stay in this locality.

Lajpat Nagar is a hub where people come to eat, shop, and meet their friends. This is a very fun place with beautiful stuff to shop for and tasty food to eat. Many were seen roaming in the market without masks, street food stalls were selling food without proper serving measures and this had become a cause for rising covid cases in the city.

To prevent people from falling ill due to the virus, the government had to take such tough measures. They have said that they will open up the shopping area soon if the people including customers and sellers observe Covid- 19 prevention rules and follow them.

The government has said that people must understand that just because they have been vaccinated doesn’t mean they can roam about freely without observing any rules. Covid is not over and one needs to take care of themselves and observe the safety rules.
