The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari today urged the people of Maharashtra to remember the glorious past of the nation and chart out a path to a better future by striving to realize Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
The Governor was speaking at the inauguration of a Cultural Programme ‘Amrit Bharat’ organized by Government of Maharashtra as part of the 75 – week long celebrations of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ at Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sabhagriha in Mumbai on Friday (12th March).
The Governor said India was a prosperous nation with a thriving economy. He said there was a Golden Period in the history of the country followed by a dark period of colonization.
He said Gandhiji blew the bugle of freedom movement by leading the Dandi March Satyagraha to oppose the imposition of salt tax.
Stating that a legion of freedom fighters from Maharashtra were in the forefront of India’s freedom movement, Governor Koshyari said a grateful nation should remember the contribution and sacrifices of its freedom fighters as it marches to the future.
The Governor said Maharashtra has the highest number of forts in the world. He called for preserving the forts of Maharashtra while working for fostering the spirit of unity and harmony among the people.
Mentioning that artists connect the people, the Governor said that artists from different parts of the country should be invited to perform in the State during the yearlong celebrations of 75 years of Indian Independence.
Minister of Cultural Affairs and Medical Education Amit Deshmukh assured that Maharashtra will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Independence in a manner that would be admired and applauded in the entire country.
Secretary of Cultural Affairs Saurabh Vijay delivered the welcome address while the Director of Cultural Affairs Bibhishan Chavare proposed a vote of thanks.
The Amrit Bharat cultural programme was directed by Narendra Bedekar while music was arranged by Somnath Parab and Nandesh Umap.
