Kolkata: On Monday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the general secretary of the Congress, requested that the West Bengal government take prompt and severe action against the suspects in the murder case of the female doctor.

“I appeal to the state government to take immediate and strict action in this case and ensure justice to the victim’s family and fellow doctors,” Priyanka Gandhi wrote on X.

She continued by drawing attention to the tragic occurrence involving the rape and killing of a medical student. She also underlined that workplace safety for women is a major concern in the country and that significant action is required to address it.

Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks are noteworthy in light of the growing outrage among medical students, junior and senior doctors in particular, and the general public about the unfortunate episode.

Preliminary post-mortem reports indicate that one individual did not commit the rape and murder, as the Kolkata Police investigating officials had alleged. More people’s involvement cannot be ruled out in the case.

She was employed by the hospital as house staff in the chest medicine section and was a second-year postgraduate medical student.

At approximately midday, hospital personnel found the deceased on the fourth floor of the hospital’s emergency facility.

Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal chief minister, has further stated that her government was open to any form of central agency investigation into the matter.
