Crime against woman, Bengaluru, Murder

Bengaluru: In a gruesome incident, a young woman living alone was killed at her home, her body viciously chopped into 30 pieces, and the body parts loaded into her fridge, where her aghast family discovered her fate, Bengaluru police said on Saturday, adding that eight special teams have been formed to investigate the sensational crime.

The event was reported from Veeranna Bhavana near Pipeline Road, within the city’s Vyalikaval police station limits. According to preliminary investigations, the deceased woman was identified as Mahalaxmi, 26, of West Bengal or Chhattisgarh.

The event was discovered when neighbours noticed a bad odour rising from the victim’s house for two days and notified her relatives. On Saturday, Mahalaxmi’s mother and sister arrived at her residence, entered, and discovered the horrifying situation, raising an alert.

When a police squad arrived at the location, they were astonished to find the victims’ body parts shoved into the 165-litre fridge. The refrigerator was operating, but the body was infested with maggots moving in and out.

The police believe Mahalaxmi was murdered at the beginning of the month, and her body was hacked into pieces using a sharp-edged instrument such as a knife or sword.

Mahalaxmi, who worked at a popular mall and would leave in the morning and return late at night, began residing in this house five to six months ago. According to people in the area, she lived alone and did not interact much with her neighbours. Her brother had spent a few days with her.

The police also discovered she was married and had a son but lived separately. Her husband, Rana, has been identified and is being questioned.

N. Satish Kumar, Additional Police Commissioner, Crime, informed the media that it appears that one individual committed the murder, chopping the body into over 30 pieces and stuffing them into her house’s single-door freezer.

According to police sources, most of the body parts were located in the fridge, making it unlikely that the perpetrator took them away for disposal. The police were putting the body pieces in boxes to transport to the hospital for inspection.

As authorities investigate the disturbing and upsetting crime, more information will become available.

The squads formed include police officers from the Vyalikaval, Sheshadripuram, and High Grounds police stations, and they have begun gathering information on the suspected individuals. All individuals who had contact with the deceased woman have been questioned, and family members have also provided feedback.

In 2022, a similar crime was reported in New Delhi’s Chattarpur, where Shraddha Walkar, 27, was allegedly slain by her lover and live-in partner Aaftab Amin Poonawala, 29. The accused had dissected her body into 35 parts and stored them in a large fridge before disposing them in a nearby forest area.
