New Delhi: Simi Singh, Ireland’s all-rounder, stated he is on the mend after a successful liver transplant surgery. Simi was diagnosed with acute liver failure earlier this month and would require a transplant.

“Hi, Guyz. Just an update that I’ve gone through my liver transplant surgery. It was a 12-hour-long surgery, and I am now in the recovery phase. It was a case wrong prescribed antibiotics and steroids, which lead to liver failure. I’m extremely fortunate to have my wife, who eventually became the donor. I want to thank everyone for their message and prayers,” wrote Simi on his Instagram story.

Simi was feeling ill in Ireland and went to India for further treatment in June of this year. Following Simi’s treatment at PGI Chandigarh, physicians diagnosed him with acute liver failure and transferred him to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

According to his father-in-law, Parvinder Singh, Simi’s wife, Agamdeep, will donate a portion of her liver to give the cricketer a fresh lease of life. Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom confirmed the developments about Simi’s health, describing the all-rounder as a major presence in Irish cricket at the international, provincial, and club levels.

Simi, 37, has played 35 ODIs and 53 T20I appearances for Ireland, including playing for the country in the 2021 and 2022 Men’s T20 World Cups. Born and raised in Mohali, Simi made his debut for Ireland in 2017 after moving to the country in 2005, when he couldn’t break into senior-level cricket in India.
