Nipah virus; More death tolls in Kerala

The Nipah virus infection that affected the Kozhikode district in Kerala make more worries as the hospital staff who was under treatment in a city hospital died today morning. Lini Puthusseri, 31, a nurse in the Perambra Taluk hospital which is nearly located to the virus affected area, had taken care of the ill patients.

The latest death takes the death toll due to fever in the wake of Nipah virus to 16.

Meanwhile Union minister for health JP Nadda directed a central team of health experts to rush to the virus affected village in Kerala to study the situation and assist the state government in allaying the fears of the people while the state health dept draws flak from the public as they allege that the health dept not giving due consideration for the critical situation and not even providing masks for the hospital staffs.

The National Virology Institute in Pune has confirmed that the three people from a single family died due to Nipah virus. 10 people with same virus symptoms have been under treatment in various hospitals in Kozhikode.
