Ever wondered why it is so difficult to change your schedule or change your habits? Everyone must be anxious about the post-pandemic life because we are well suited in our homes now.  It is not you alone, but everyone is facing the same fear. Transforming your life can be very hard, scary and uncomfortable because it is unknown.  Your brain is hardwired to avoid these feelings to protect you. People will often prefer to remain mired in misery than to head toward an unknown. As the saying goes, “Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t know.” It can make people feel that they’ve lost control over their territory.

Change is also more work because your mind is working with something new and uncomfortable. Your mind is an efficient machine designed to keep you safe which is why it loves patterns, routines, and habits. Decisions that come on people suddenly, with no time to get used to the idea or prepare for the consequences, generally scare and make them uncomfortable, and it is easier to say ‘no’ to uncertainty and unknown. Change is an uneasy psychological process, as humans, we’re happy and safe in our comfort zone. Change is an emotional road we must travel in order to get from where we are now to where we want to be.

How can you make this process easy? When your mind sees you taking action, that action becomes what your mind knows. This way you can trick your mind. Motivate yourself, tell your mind that you are strong and you can do it. Break down the change so it’s not scary. This phase will pass away and you will be habitual to change. And at last, believe in yourself. Remember, there is an immense payoff for your commitment and efforts to change.
