Jaipur: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will travel on a Kavach-equipped train to Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, on Tuesday to test the automatic protection system’s performance.

According to railway officials, Minister Vaishnaw will board a train with a Kavach-fitted engine at Sawai Madhopur station and travel 45 minutes to Indargarh station.

He will test the ‘Kavach 4.0’ technology, which automatically stops a train when it collides with another and maintains the train’s speed under control.

According to the official, the train will operate at varied speeds in a Kavach-equipped segment for 45 minutes to check whether it stops on its own at red signals without the loco driver activating the brakes.

After visiting the Kavach system, the Railway Minister will go to Delhi from Sumerganj Mandi.

According to railway officials, the 108-kilometre railway track between Sawai Madhopur and Kota is now fitted with Kavach. Railways has installed the Automatic Train Protection System Kavach 4.0 here.

The Research Designs and Standards Organisation created the Kavach system, also known as the Automatic Train Protection System (ATP). The protection system’s key feature is its ability to automatically deploy brakes in an emergency when a train driver fails to act in time.

The Minister had previously stated that the Kavach 4.0 would address all communication issues in all geographical settings, including forest, mountainous terrain, coastal, and desert locations. He further noted that work was underway to operationalise the Kavach system on the 3,000-kilometer-long Mumbai-Delhi and Delhi-Kolkata rail routes, which is likely to be completed by March next year.

The Railway Minister is also scheduled to meet with BJP workers in Jaipur Rural and BJP members from the State Mahila Morcha. He would review the work at Gandhinagar Jaipur Railway Station before taking a train to Sawai Madhopur at 1.30 p.m. from Jaipur.
