Spanish giants Barcelona have been the most dominant club in Spain as they secured their 31st Copa Del Rey title. Barcelona finished third in the league behind arch-rivals Real Madrid and Atletico. They were eliminated at the round-of-16 of the UEFA Champions League by PSG which was a shocking defeat. One trophy is not enough for the club which has won almost everything and does not settle for less. These unprecedented times of the pandemic have forced La Liga to introduce a new wage cap for all the clubs in the league.

They have to reduce their wage bill according to the new guidelines and are not able to register their new signings Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, and Memphis Depay who were all free transfers, and Emerson Royale from Real Betis. They have an agreement with club legend Lionel Messi which will be a 5-year-deal and has also agreed to a massive pay cut. They will not be able to register their best player who is currently a free agent as preparations for the new season begins.

The Catalan club is working on how to reduce their wages in the current situation and are ready to offload some of the highest wage earners. Players who are set to leave are — Samuel Umtiti, Philippe Coutinho, and Miralem Pjanic. Danish Striker Martin Braithwaite had a good EURO Championship and looks all set to leave the club. Ousmane Dembele suffered another injury for France at the EURO 2020 and is unfortunately out of action for 4 months.
