In April 2018 Fiscal Monitor Report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) praised India for its push towards digitalisation, saying that "the experiences of India and South Africa show how digitalisation can help improve social protection and the delivery of public services."

The country has been gradually taking strides to embrace digital tools and platforms in all spheres of life. One of the biggest bets from the government in this direction has been the introduction and implementation of Aadhaar-a move supported by the IMF as well. In the past few years, the country has seen digitalisation make a mark in multiple spheres including education, social welfare connectivity. The other digitalisation-based efforts from the government include PAHAL and DigiLocker.

The benefits of digitalisation aren't just confined to the government. Digital revolution is unlike any other revolution that the world has witnessed in the past. India is currently at the forefront of leading the Digital Revolution with unparalleled speed and scale.

India has placed itself as a 'mobile- fint country, housing one of the largest mobile manufacturing factories in the world set up by Samsung in 2018. The number of mobile plants in India servicing this new-age consumer has grown from tremendously. More than 290 million mobile phones were domestically produced in the country in 2019-20. In the past few years, India has become one of largest consumers of data in the world.

The story of India's digitalisation can't be complete without mentioning the penetration of digital payments in the country using a variety of platforms including UPI (Unified Payment Interface), Paytm and Google Pay. The increasing number of smartphones in the country has led to an unprecedented growth in digital transactions in the country. The impact of this change is being seen mainly in online shopping, payment of utility bills and movie tickets. Pandemic has also been a catalyst to this revolution in the country.

The expansion of digitalisation in the country can be witnessed in almost all spheres ranging from changing education landscape to the kind of new age industries coming up in the country. With such a game changing resource in our hands, we can't miss the chance to use this wave and place ourselves amongst the leading nations in the world.
