Wayanad, also known as the 'Green Paradise', lies in the Western Ghats mountains. Wayanad district is located on the southern tip of the Deccan plateau and in the north-eastern part of a rural district in Kerala state, southwest India.

It is a picturesque plateau situated at a height between 700 meters and 2100 meters above the sea level nested among the mountains of the Western Ghats on the Eastern portion of North Kerala and on the flanks of Tamil Nadu and the Karnataka States. An exotic and lush district Wayanad is the perfect blend of history, nature, and culture.

The name Wayanad comes from Vayal Nadu and it means the land of paddy fields. Wayanad is an enchanting hill station on the earth, renowned worldwide for its awe-inspiring beauty, lush-green landscape, and serene environment.

This area is famous for its large amount of camping and trekking trails, breath-taking waterfalls, caves, bird watching sites, flora, fauna, and an overall plethora of magnificent sights. This area has been a tourist favorite over the years.

A few of the attractions in the Wayanad district include- Banasura Dam; Banasura Hill; Lakkidi View Point; Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary; Edakkal Caves; Chembra Peak; Pookat Lake; Soochipara Falls; Kuruva Island; Thirunelli Temple; Meenmutty Falls.

The best time to visit this beautiful place is from October to May. The times between December to February are much cooler than the other months of the year with a downfall of temperature up to 10°C. It's not unnatural, but it is certainly rare for the region to experience snowfall or hail storms.

Wayanad is better, if one prefers wildlife and forest, one can also visit tribal villages and know their culture. if you are among the people who love adventure, Kuruva islands, and Pakshipathalam caves are something one should definitely explore.

The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, in the east, is surrounded by the lush forested region with areas of high altitude, home to animals including Asiatic elephants, tigers, leopards, and egrets. In the Ambukuthi Hills to the south, Edakkal Caves contain ancient petroglyphs, some dating back to the Neolithic age.

Over here, one can shop for Spices, coffee, tea, bamboo articles, native crafts, honey, herbal plants. The handicraft and handloom products are also famous. Other items like garments, textiles, and furniture are also available in the market of Wayanad.

To enjoy this place and all the beautiful attractions it offers, three days is enough, and one can stay near the Meppadi area or Vythiri. One can reach Wayanad through airways, railways, and roadways.

This destination is now open for tourists, one can trek to the beautiful waterfalls, enjoy the chilly climate and forget all about the stress. This is a very adventurous as well as a relaxing hill station to visit.
