The Durga Fighter force is an all-female combat staff of 32 female fighters who were constituted to fight against Naxalism in the Naxal affected district of Sukma.

These fighters will be trained for a month in all types of fighting and weaponry. They will also be taught all the important things one need to know while facing the enemy and controlling the situation. The idea behind an all-women force is to promote gender equality since women are equal to men, said the Superintendent of Police of Sukma.

The SP also said that "We are happy to inform that, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Chhattisgarh women commandos met the officials to constitute a District Reserve Force (DRG) team for them. The proposal has been accepted and the team will be called `Durga Fighters` which will have 32 female staff. They will be trained for commando duty for a month. They will perform all active duties".

The captain of Durga Fighters, Asha Sen said that the force has pledged to make Sukma a Naxal-free region, so that the people don’t have to live in fear over there and can enjoy life fully without any restrictions. She also added, "Today, we all have pledged to make Sukma a `Naxal free region`. Just like brothers and sisters promise to protect each other on Raksha Bandhan, we all have pledged to protect the people of the Sukma region from Naxalites. We now feel equal to men as we have been given a place in District Reserve Guards (DRG) team," she said.

This is a great initiative started by the people of Sukma as not only are they fighting for their freedom, but are also including women in the same and are showing that men and women both are equal and can equally fight against the enemy. We really support the women warriors and wish them the best of luck for their missions and hope they are able to complete it.
