New Delhi: Strong earnings for the IT sector in the April–June quarter indicate that jobs are returning, with nearly 90,000 fresh hires sought by the nation’s leading tech corporations for the current fiscal year.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leader in IT services, intends to engage close to 40,000 fresh graduates in FY25, whereas Infosys hopes to hire between 15,000 and 20,000 fresh graduates this fiscal year.

In the first quarter of FY25, TCS added 5,452 workers, reversing three-quarters of the decline in headcount. Currently, the corporation has 6,06,998 employees. In Q1, the attrition rate decreased even more to 12.1%.

According to the chief HR officer Milind Lakkad, the company’s main HR approach is to hire primarily from colleges.

“During the quarter, or during the year, some quarter planning of that also happens. We figure out what are the skill gaps we have, and based on that we hire,” he said.

Notably, Infosys hired 11,900 fresh graduates in FY24, a 76% decrease from the more than 50,000 hired in FY23.

According to its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Jayesh Sanghrajka, they want to hire up to 20,000 first-year students this year, contingent on growth, on the Q1 earnings call.

In FY25, HCLTech intends to hire around 10,000 first-year college students. With a net addition of 8,080 in the first quarter of this fiscal year, it currently employs 219,401 people.

Saurabh Govil, chief human resources officer at Wipro, states that the organisation plans to finish up the backlog of onboarding new hires in FY25. The IT services major anticipates over 10,000–12,000 new hires in the current fiscal year.

Before this, Tech Mahindra had said it intends to hire 6,000 new employees for the current fiscal year.
