Mumbai: In a historic event, Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan presented the prestigious Bharat Ratna Dr Ambedkar Awards to the legendary film star Prem Chopra. The ceremony at the esteemed ISKCON Auditorium in Mumbai marked a momentous Monday for the Indian film industry.  

Other eminent personalities from various walks of life were also honoured and presented the award.

A diverse group of individuals joined the illustrious ranks of the award recipients. From MLA Dr Bharti Lavekar to versatile actor Sunil Paul, from distinguished Indian Cricket Umpire Anil Chaudhary to esteemed Dr Basant Goyal, and from dedicated social worker Mustafa Gom to the legendary Prem Chopra, the event celebrated a wide array of talents and contributions.

The esteemed presence of Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale, President of Buddhanjali Research Foundation Charitable Trust Kailash Masoom, and other distinguished invitees added to the grandeur of the occasion.

Prem Chopra has spent decades in the film industry. Born in Lahore on 23 September 1935, the octagenarian star carved a niche for himself. One of his famous dialogues from the film Bobby is “Prem naam Hai Mera, Prem Chopra,” which is still popular.

He was suave and handsome, with a hero’s bearing, but (he) mainly portrayed ruthless villain characters on the big screen.

Over the past 57 years, he has acted in 380 films. His iconic films include Shaheed, Purab Aur Paschim, Jugnu, Woh Kaun Thi, and Teesri Manzil.
