Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) is reportedly investing Rs.1.05 lakh crores over the next five years for expanding pipelines and city gas distribution network as well as for infrastructure development. Speaking to the media Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL said that the company will also enhance its petrochemical production capacity.

Manoj Jain who recently took over as the head of GAIL said that the company plans to spend Rs 45,000-50,000 crore in laying pipelines, Rs 40,000 crore for city gas distribution (CGD) business and Rs 10,000 crore for enhancing the petrochemical capacity expansion. 

With government giving thrust to increase the share of natural gas in the energy basket to around 15 per cent by 2030, the company is planning to lay gas pipelines for transporting fuel to eastern and north eastern parts of India as well as south India.
