Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials who took former Yes Bank head Rana Kapoor in their custody is now scrutinizing the properties bought by him in Delhi, amounting to over Rs.1,000 crores. Sources have revealed that the ED foiled his plans to sell those properties and flee the country.
It is reliably learnt that Kapoor has asked some property dealers in Delhi to sell some properties located in posh localities such as Chanakyapuri, Kautilya Marg, etc. even though the properties aren’t directly in his name but in his wife Bindu Kapoor’s name. Bindu had bought a luxurious bungalow in Amrita Shergill Marg, a prime location in Lutyen’s Delhi in the name of her company Bliss Abode Limited while two other properties are registered in the name of Bliss Villa (Delhi) Private Limited.
Kapoor was planning to sell some of these properties in Delhi and Mumbai and run away to the US, UK or France as soon as he got tip-off of ED coming on his trail. It is believed that the bungalow in his wife’s name at Amrita Shergill was bought from Avantha Realty, Gautam Thapar’s company which borrowed money from Yes Bank.
The ED as well as CBI has filed separate cases against Rana Kapoor, his wife and three daughters Rakhee Kapoor Tandon, Roshni Kapoor and Radha Kapoor besides Dewan Housing Finance Ltd (DHFL) promoter Kapil Wadhwan for hatching a criminal conspiracy from April to June 2018 between for extending financial assistance to DHFL by Yes Bank. Allegedly, the Kapoors were given kickbacks amounting to Rs.600 crores for the transactions. Rana Kapoor is currently in ED custody and is being questioned by the agency for all the shady deals.
