New Delhi: At the 70th National Film Awards 2024 on Friday, Rishabh Shetty was voted Best Actor for his role in the movie Kantara, while director Sooraj Barjatya was honoured as Best Director for the movie Uunchai.
A diverse array of award winners were also announced. Nithya Menen and Mansi Parekh, who starred in Thiruchitrambalam and Kutch Express, respectively, were named Best Actress winners. Gulmohar, which was also awarded the Best Hindi Film, brought home a Special Mention award for renowned actor Manoj Bajpayee. Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee are also featured in Gulmohar. The film is about a multigenerational family prepared to leave their 34-year-old family home.
The winners were announced in New Delhi on Friday by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. President Droupadi Murmu will honour the victors in October 2024, including the one who will receive the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
At the 70th National Film Awards, Pritam, the music composer for the Hindi film “Brahmastra,” took home the Best Music trophy.
The National Film Award for Best Kannada Film went to the popular film “KGF Chapter 2,” which starred Yash. They also took home the Best Action Direction (Stunt Choreography) and Best Stunt Choreography awards.
At the 70th National Film Awards, Mani-Ratnam’s film Ponniyin Selvan 1 won Best Tamil Film.
The top winners of the 69th National Film Awards were “RRR” and “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,” which starred Allu Arjun, Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, and Pankaj Tripathi.
The Awards were first presented in 1954 to recognise excellence in cinema. The Government of India conceived the ceremony to honour films made across India on a national scale and encourage the furthering of Indian art and culture.
