Media Eye News Bureau: Comedian Aziz Ansari has responded to an allegation of a 23-year old photographer from New York who accused him of sexual misconduct, stating he believed that the encounter was consensual.
The woman told a blog about her date with Ansari last year that left her feeling violated. The woman who was referred to under the pseudonym Grace, explained that she felt compelled to speak out after seeing Ansari wearing a ‘Time’s Up’ pin while accepting a Golden Globe for his Netflix series ‘Master of None.’
She talked about her discomfort at how quickly things escalated as he repeatedly tried to initiate sex when they went back to Ansari’s apartment after their date and that, he ignored her signals of discomfort. The woman further stated that she left his apartment in tears. She said that she had texted Ansari to let him know that his behaviour had made her uneasy and that he had ignored her clear non-verbal clues. Ansari though apologised at the time as he texted back, saying, “Clearly, I misread things in the moment and I’m truly sorry.”
Ansari released a statement on the matter confirming the encounter and said that he was ‘surprised and concerned’ and ‘took her words to heart’ and had apologized to the woman in private as well.
