New York's attorney general has reportedly sued the Weinstein Company and Harvey Weinstein due to the alleged years of sexual harassment and misconduct by the disgraced movie producer.

Weinstein was the co-founder of Miramax studio and was one of Hollywood's influential men before more than 70 women accused him of sexual misconduct, including rape. He however denies having non-consensual sex with anyone.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman stated that the company is sued because the executives and board failed to protect employees from Weinstein. The suit also names Weinstein's brother Bob, who co-founded the company. He asserted that the state is seeking an unspecified amount of restitution and damages as well as penalties for harm to victims

The studio had been in talks to sell itself to a group of investors but Schneiderman's lawsuit has put deal negotiations on hold. Schneiderman said, “Any sale of The Weinstein Company must ensure that victims will be compensated, employees will be protected going forward, and that neither perpetrators nor enablers will be unjustly enriched.”
