Actor and comedian Jim Carrey has revealed that he is dumping his stock in Facebook and urging others to do the same as well.
He announced that he would be deleting his Facebook account and selling his shares in the company over concerns that the social-networking company may have profited from Russian meddling in the 2016 US election.
Carrey tweeted, “I’m dumping my @facebook stock and deleting my page because @facebook profited from Russian interference in our elections and they’re still not doing enough to stop it. I encourage all other investors who care about our future to do the same. #unfriendfacebook.”
Carrey's campaign comes after Facebook was criticised for the handling of ads during the 2016 US election. It had been determined at the time by US intelligence agencies that the Russian government had used these platforms to disseminate false news and advertisements in an attempt to influence US elections in 2016.
