The Queen of England recently made a surprise appearance at London Fashion Week at designer Richard Quinn’s show. The audience stood up to greet the monarch as she entered the venue.

The Queen sat front row beside Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, who in turn sat next to the monarch’s dressmaker, Angela Kelly.

Quinn also paid homage to his special guest after the show. The designer is known for outfits whose scarves cover models’ faces. The scarves modelled were of the classic variety, the kind the Queen is known for wearing at Balmoral. His other pieces were inspired by retro florals.

After the show the Queen presented Quinn the inaugural Queen Elizabeth II award for British design. The Queen expressed that the award was a tribute to the British fashion industry and its reputation for ‘outstanding craftsmanship.’

Accepting the award, Quinn asserted that the experience was ‘surreal’ and that his guest had an impact on his collection as well which prompted him to add those scarves. He said, “I definitely think she is a fashion icon. It’s a tongue-in-cheek take on Balmoral, my take on it, basically.”
