Mumbai: The  BMC adopted a proposal on Wednesday to give residential societies at least 15% of property tax rebate, which will follow the laws of segregation, undertake composting of wet waste, reuse dry waste and recycle grey water.

The BMC Standing Committee passed the suggestion that if it segregates its waste and processes wet waste in its premises, a 5% rebate will be provided to a residential society. Another five percent rebate will be given to the society if it makes sure that dry waste collected is reused. If it establishes a system to reuse its sewage (greywater policy) and rainwater for non-potable purposes, such as a toilet flushing, the society will receive another five percent rebate.

"If residential socieites follow all these environmentally friendly methods, we will give a total of 15 percent rebate in property tax. From next year onwards the rebate will be given."  BMC officials said.
