Eight people have died and more than 100 injured after a major fire broke out at an ESIC hospital in Andheri, around 4 pm yesterday. Primary investigations reveal that short circuit is the main reason for the disaster.

The fire broke out at the government-run ESIC Kamgar hospital located at Marol in Suburban Andheri. Eight fire engines have rushed on to the hospital to initiate necessary rescue operations. The blaze happened at the top of the five-floor building where many patients, including infants were present at that point of time.

The rescue operations got fastened with 15 more special fire engines with water arrived after the fire had spread to the further areas of the hospital. Many patients and hospital staffs were rescued by using ladders and they were sent to Cooper, Seven Hills, Holly Spirit and Trauma hospitals in Mumbai.
