Heavy rainfall in Mumbai

Mumbai/Nagpur: The heavy overnight rains, while causing significant damage to numerous areas of the state, including Mumbai, the coastal Konkan, and other areas, have also led to widespread inconvenience. The rains caused floods and waterlogging in many areas, disrupting daily life.

The rain continued in the suburbs and downtown until after midnight. Additionally, heavy rain is predicted during the daytime.

The community spirit was evident in many locations, including Dadar, Wadala, Parel, Kurla, Bhandup, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Kandivali, and Borivali, where residents came together to deal with the waterlogging. Four to five feet of water inundated the Andheri subway, which was closed. Pumps were installed in the subways at Dahisar, Kandivali, Malad, Santacruz, Khar, and Mankhurd to remove the floodwaters.

While traffic was slow on the Eastern Express Highway, vehicles moved at a snail’s pace on the Western Express Highway due to flooding in parts of Kandivali, Malad and Goregaon.

The Central Railway and its Harbour Line trains were running, with ten to fifteen minutes delays in certain areas. The Western Railway reported regular services. However, due to the heavy rainfall, there might be further delays or cancellations, so it’s advisable to check for updates before planning your journey.

Heavy rains continued to batter Palghar, Thane, and Raigad sections in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), causing traffic disruptions on numerous local and intercity roadways. Ratnagiri has issued a red alert for Saturday.

Nagpur has been severely hit by rain and flooding in numerous districts, necessitating school closures. On Saturday, a red alert is in effect for Gadchiroli and Chandrapur.

Mumbai reported an average rainfall of 91 mm in the city, 93 mm in the western suburbs, and 87 mm in the eastern suburbs during the previous 12 hours (overnight) until Saturday at 8 a.m., according to the (Municipal Corporation) BMC.

The BMC predicts that most of Mumbai will experience moderate to severe rain today, with certain areas possibly experiencing extremely heavy rain. The heavy rainfall is expected to continue for the next few days, so it’s important to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.
