Mumbai: On the occasion of the 103 rd birth anniversary of the legend musician Late Dr.M.S.Subbulakshmi, 50 prominent young musicians from all over the country were presented with "Sri Shanmukhananda Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music" on ,September 14. at Shanmukhananda auditorium. The fellowship carries a grant of Rs. 1 lakh for three years each in the field of Carnatic
vocal, Hindustani vocal, Mrudungam, Harikatha, Nadaswaram, Chitravina, Veena, Sitar,flute and violin. The musicians hail from Mumbai, Amritsar, Bangalore, Calcutta,Chennai, Kerala, New Delhi, Andhra, Udupi ,Pune and Thane. This year, for the first time, the fellowship was given to 13 youngsters and continued for 37 other musicians. On the following day, Shanmukhananda Dr. M.S.Subbulakshmi Sangeetha Pracharya
Award was presented to well known carnatic music guru Mrs. Alamelu Mani , mother of playback singer A.Hariharan, She has trained more than 1000 students across the globe in carnatic music.
