Mumbai: Reportedly, over 37000 idols were immersed on Tuesday, the last day of the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Juhu Beach, one of the city’s most popular destinations, occasionally experiences pollution, especially after the Ganpati immersion or the Ganpati Visarjan.

Understanding this problem, the Dharti Foundation organised a special cleaning drive on Wednesday, a day after the immersion.

Significantly, an initiative started twenty years ago by the foundation’s chairman, Narayana Guru, has become an annual activity.

Narayan Guru aimed to clean the beaches and raise awareness about cleanliness. Under his leadership, the Dharti Foundation has continuously organised cleanliness drives at Juhu Beach and other public places.

Many students, led by their teachers and professors from local educational institutions, joined the drive. One such person was professor Shivaji Nikam, known for his extensive social work. He made his students aware of the importance of social service and encouraged them to participate in this clean-up drive.

Simultaneously, all the Dharti Foundation committee members and their families and friends participated in the drive. The Dharti Foundation members said they were committed to understanding their responsibility towards society and supporting the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.”

Other participants included the foundation’s secretary, Pradeep Yadav, and he was joined by Ram Yadav, Gaurang Inamdar and Rajendra Kashid. They also obtained police permission and the tools required for the cleanliness drive.

The impact of this cleanliness drive was significant. The local community appreciated the efforts and was eager to participate in future programmes. Such drives keep the beach clean and send a powerful message about the importance of cleanliness in society.

Looking ahead, the Dharti Foundation is committed to organising such cleanliness drives every month. “This ongoing commitment is a testament to our dedication to serving society and maintaining the cleanliness of our city’s public spaces. Let’s continue to be inspired by this mission and work together towards a cleaner, healthier environment,” said a member on behalf of the Foundation.

This Dharti Foundation expresses that its cleanliness drive has underscored the collective responsibility to increase social service and cleanliness awareness. It’s up to everyone to keep the surroundings clean and realise the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
