Thane: In the stranded Mahalaxmi Express train, which has been stuck in flood waters in Vangani for about 18 hours here on Saturday, a nine-month pregnant lady came to work. Her panicky parents sent urgent D1 bogey appeals seeking assistance in rushing her to a hospital.

The woman, recognized as Reshma Kamble, traveled from Mumbai to Kolhapur for her child's delivery, but since Friday evening the train had been stuck in Thane flood waters.

Some unconfirmed reports said that in separate phases of pregnancy there are at least nine other females on board who are in trouble and waiting for assistance.

The Indian Army, Indian Air Forces, Indian Navy and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have initiated one of the largest activities to rescue an approximately 1,500 passengers stranded on the train on all sides with about 3-5 feet of water.

Thane's Guardian Minister Eknath Gaikwad hurried to Badlapur to take stock of the rescue activities and said in addition to the defense and NDRF, all neighboring towns and villages also sent rescue teams to assist the passengers.
