Bogota (Colombia): A drone attack on a soccer field in the Cauca region in southwest Colombia claimed the lives of ten persons, including a minor, according to military officials.
According to Gen. Federico Mejia, the commander of the Army Specific Command in Cauca, the attack was carried out by former members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia rebel organisation in the El Plateado neighbourhood of the city of Argelia, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
According to him, there were thirteen drone assaults on the army with explosives before the Tuesday attack on the playground where kids were playing.
On Tuesday at approximately nine o’clock p.m. local time, a last drone launched from one of the homes on the western side of the soccer field detonated an explosive device on the field, resulting in the tragic death of a young person and an unknown number of others, he said.
According to the general, the attacks were a reaction to military operations against guerrillas.
