In Dholpur District Jail, 74 Prisoners Renounced Crime Taking a Vow in Name of Goddess Durga

Dholpur (Rajasthan): The festival of Shardiya Navratri is characterised by a devotional atmosphere across the country. Shouts of Mata Rani are heard everywhere.

Dholpur District Jail is also not untouched by the devotion of Mata Rani – Goddess Durga. 74 prisoners lodged here have decided to desist from crime by fasting and considering Goddess Durga as their witness.

Jail Superintendent Suman Meena said that 400 prisoners, including 11 women, are in the jail. Of these, 74 have observed a fast for nine days. Arrangements of milk, juice, and fruits have been made for all these prisoners.

Mata Rani’s court has been set up in the jail premises itself. Here, the prisoners perform bhajans and kirtans and perform Mata Rani’s aarti in the morning and evening. After being released from the district jail, these prisoners will join the mainstream of society and try to live better lives with their families.
