531 passengers tracked for Ebola Virus

The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) is tracking such passengers, the details of which are provided to them by the Airport Health Organization.

On August 22, 35 passengers were enrolled for follow up in their respective States through State IDSP units. As on date, a cumulative number of 531 passengers are being tracked. Most of them are in the States of Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.   

During past 24 hours, 141 passengers from the affected countries have arrived at the Airports of  Mumbai (69), Delhi (50), Chennai (6), Kochi (9), Bangalore(6) and Trivandrum (1).  

One  passenger, about 50 year old, Male who arrived at Bangalore Airport, was referred to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Disease, Bangalore [Identified hospital for EVD in the State of Karnataka] yesterday night. This passenger was found not having any symptoms on subsequent examination and hence discharged.

The Quarantine cum Isolation Health Facility at Delhi Airport has not admitted any suspect case for observation/ testing on Friday.

The Control Room in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has received 629 calls since its inception early on August 9 and only 10 calls received in the past 24 hours.  Most of the callers have sought information on signs and symptoms of the disease and travel related risk of acquiring the infection.

WHO has reported a total of 2473 cases  of Ebola Virus Disease in (Liberia 972, Sierra Leone 907, Guinea 579, Nigeria 15, and 1350 deaths ; Liberia 576, Sierra Leone 374,Guinea 396, Nigeria 04 (as on 18th August 2014) due to Ebola Virus Disease.
