Raising a child isn’t child’s play. The costs involved have risen drastically by as much as 5 to 6 percent since last year.

Remarks Sarita Dave, a single working mother of two explains, “I just cannot afford taking care of my two babies as all major costs have gone up. From their clothes to food to even their medical health they have all shot up drastically. Until last year I used to spend about Rs 6000 towards both their monthly expenditure, but these days I am spending, Rs 5000 towards my each kid.” The growing inflation has led to all this.

Even babysitters who were not charging much have suddenly hiked their costs. Romila Vyas a babysitter who runs her baby care centre with 40 kids explains, “The rising costs of electricity, property taxes etc have led to a high costs in running a baby care centre. Parents who do not understand this as they feel, there is not much costs involved in taking care of 40 kids. But to run a centre it’s not easy.”
