New Delhi: Health concerns about Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann are rising amid his hospitalisation two days ago due to a sudden health crisis.

Reportedly, he fainted three times, prompting various medical tests at Fortis Hospital in Mohali. Currently, his condition is said to be stable, but the exact nature of his health issues remains unclear.

Mann had a health emergency in Chandigarh about nine days ago, which prompted his hospitalisation to a local hospital and then to Apollo Hospital in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister and national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) called to enquire about his health.

Meanwhile, opposition parties such as the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress criticise the AAP for its silence on Mann’s health.

Bikram Singh Majithia, the Akali Dal’s leader and former minister, expressed alarm over Mann’s deteriorating health, even stating on social media that he had liver cirrhosis and may require an immediate liver transplant. He has asked Fortis Hospital to provide a medical bulletin regarding the Chief Minister’s condition.

Police Junks “Senationalist’ Bangladesh Fan’s Assault Claim

Majithia noted in a video clip that the public has the right to know about Mann’s health as a constitutional figure, raising fears that important information is being concealed. He claimed that if Mann had received regular check-ups, he would not have needed to be hospitalised at night, hinting that the AAP is not honest about the sitting CM’s health.

Similarly, Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa echoed these concerns, pressing Punjab’s Health Minister, Dr Balbir Singh, to provide regular health updates rather than leaving the public to speculate about Mann’s condition. The AAP has yet to provide any updates on Mann’s health, sparking further questions from opposition leaders about the seriousness of his condition and the Punjab government’s apparent lack of transparency.

Hospital issues a medical bulletin

Meanwhile, late Friday evening, a medical bulletin released by the Fortis Hospital in Mohali said, “Due to an increase in pressure in the Chief Minister’s pulmonary artery, there was pressure on his heart, leading to irregular blood pressure. Currently, all vitals of the Chief Minister are completely stable.”

“The doctor will make further decisions only after the results of the heart tests and examinations are available. The Chief Minister is responding well to treatment, and it is hoped that his condition will improve soon,” it added.

A senior AAP leader refused to reveal Mann’s ailment, adding that the Chief Minister’s health is “fine” and that he will be discharged from the hospital “after a few more necessary tests.”

Mann was admitted to the hospital late Wednesday night.
