The renowned Institute of Human Virology in United States has honoured the chief minister of Kerala Mr Pinarayi Vijayan as the institute appreciated the measures taken by the Kerala government in order to safeguard people from the devastating effects of Nipah Virus. The rare viral disease had targeted Kerala in the month of May, took the lives of 18 people as well as spreading much fear and alarm in the state.
Dr Robert Gelow, the Co-founder of the institute and also a world famous medical researcher, delivered the honour to the Kerala CM and the state health minister K K Shylaja as well. Mr Gelow was one of the members of the team that detected HIV Virus, which is the prime reason for AIDS.
Earlier, the government officials and the scientists, heads of various academic departments of the institute had discussed many matters, especially about the future of the International Virology Institute, to be built in Thiruvananthapuram.
