Pakistan appointed former chief justice Nasir Ul Mulk as interim prime minister. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that Mulk will be at the helm till the elections to the general assembly are held on July 25.

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) and the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party had locked horns each other about who will be the next PM after the current government and the parliament's term had ended on Thursday.

But Abbasi said that they have selected Nasir unanimously and no point in rumours. "People even in Pakistan will be hesitant to lift a finger against Nasir", Abbasi told reporters along with opposition leader Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah.

Nasir, who was also the interim chief of the Election Commission of Pakistan,  had been the chief justice for a short stint from July 6 2014 during the period of Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister.
