France’s High-Speed Rail Travel Disrupted by Arson Attacks, Suspected to be Deliberate Ahead of the Olympic Games Today

Paris: On Friday, arson attacks intended to damage equipment caused serious disruptions to TGV high-speed train service on France’s Atlantic, Northern, and Eastern routes, the French national rail company SNCF reported on X.

As reported by the Xinhua news agency, the SNCF said that 800,000 people were impacted by the attacks, with some trains being cancelled and some rerouted.

Amelie Oudea-Castera, Minister of Sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games informed local media BFMTV that delays are expected to happen on the first day of the Olympic Games in Paris and might last all weekend. This information will help the public prepare for potential disruptions.

“All the elements we have show that (the acts are) deliberate”, said Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete on Friday to BFMTV, adding that an investigation is underway. This ongoing investigation will keep the public informed about the situation.

SNCF teams are on-site to diagnose the problem and begin repairs, the SNCF said on X. It added that the Southeast route is not affected as an act of malice has been thwarted.
